1. Anonymous asked: Mr Brevoort, is it difficult to find that balance between a writers creativity and editorial? There's all this talk about DCs editorial meddling with the writers forcing them to leave and was curious about Marvels approach. You mentioned before about editors championing a pitch of a writer but what about those occasions where you have to shoot down a pitch. Is there an easy way of doing it? How do you do it and maintain a a working relationship with the writer? Is there a wrong way of doing it?

    The wrong way is not to be straight about it, or not to tell the writer anything at all. But everything is about relationships. As an editor, you build a bridge of trust with your creators, such that when you have something to say, they take it seriously and know that it’s considered and in the best interests of the work. And the best way to give bad news is simply to give it.
